Samsung has been dominating the global smartphone market with a huge market share for quite some time now. The South Korean tech behemoth continues to be at the forefront of the smartphone segment for Q1 of 2022.

As per a new IDC (International Data Corporation) report, Samsung has retained its number 1 spot on the list of the top smartphone manufacturer globally. The company has a 23.4 percent market share and has shipped a whopping 73.6 million units in Q1 of 2022.

Notably, this is a slight decline from last year. To recap, Samsung shipped 74.5 million units in Q1 of 2021. Apple is in the second position with an 18 percent market share.

The Cupertino-based tech company shipped 56.6 million iPhones from January to March 2022. However, Apple does not follow in the footsteps of Samsung as far as the decline in shipments is concerned.

Apple’s shipments increased by 2.2 percent in Q1 of this year. Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo take the third, fourth, and fifth positions respectively. Xiaomi’s market share is 12.7 percent with shipments of 39.9 million units.

Likewise, Oppo managed to ship 27.4 million units with an 8.7 percent market share. Vivo, on the other hand, shipped 25.3 million units with a market share of 8.1 percent.

However, the Chinese smartphone makers show a decrease in shipment when compared year-on-year. For instance, Vivo saw a huge 27.7 percent decline, while Oppo had a 26.8 percent drop in shipments. Lastly, Xiaomi had a 17.8 percent decline.

Nabila Popal of IDC claims that the companies are witnessing drops in shipments due to supply chain issues. So, there is a dearth of components for making smartphones.

Further, Popal suggests that global inflation and economic condition would lead to a drop in consumer demand.
