Now, the streamer is addressing the chaos and revealing how she tried — and failed — to save fans from the ultimate spoiler.

Although Spider-Man: Brand New Day enjoyed a huge opening weekend at the box office, musician Steve Lacy spoiled one of Marvel’s most closely guarded secrets just days before the public release of Tom Holland’s latest film.

During a live premiere interview with Lacy, popular Twitch streamer and host Valkyrae found herself in an awkward position when the ‘Bad Habit’ singer blurted out the name of a character Marvel had kept entirely under wraps. Things quickly escalated as he went a step further, revealing the character’s hidden role in the film.
Reflecting on the moment, Valkyrae said she felt terrible for loyal fans who had carefully avoided spoilers, only to have a major reveal spoiled just before the film’s release.
Massive Plot Twist Exposed on Stream
Lacy dropped a major bombshell by revealing that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink plays Jean Grey, one of the most powerful X-Men. Studio executives had gone to great lengths to keep the secret under wraps, even sending Sink on the promotional circuit under strict instructions not to discuss her character. Although fans had speculated about her role for months, no trailers or official previews had confirmed it.
So, when Valkyrae asked Lacy to name his favourite character — while explicitly warning him not to give anything away — she was visibly stunned when he confirmed Jean Grey’s appearance and revealed her role as the film’s main antagonist.
Valkyrae Breaks Silence on Live Incident
Valkyrae has since opened up about what was going through her mind during the live broadcast, explaining how she tried to allow the artist to save face — a chance he completely missed.
‘The second I heard a very specific word, I… dude, my face is so funny,’ she recalled, describing her unfiltered reaction during the broadcast.

‘My reaction was insane. I couldn’t even hide it because I knew that it was not just a theory, but it was a straight-up spoiler. […] I was trying to maybe give him an out, because I knew it was a theory, so I was like, “Oh, is that a spoiler?”
‘Like, I thought he was gonna be like, “Oh, just kidding. I saw the theories,” or “I guess we’ll have to find out.” I thought he was going to say something to play it off, and then bro doubles down on another spoiler.’
Valkyrae Sympathises With Upset Marvel Fans
After politely bringing the conversation to a close, Valkyrae admitted she knew the clip would inevitably spread online and reach fans who had been planning to watch the film later that week.
‘I felt so bad because obviously it goes gigaviral, and it sucks for the Spider-Man fans, like the people who are waiting to watch the movie getting what is likely to be a spoiler. You never really know if it’s a spoiler until you watch, so I felt really bad for the real Spider-Man fans. Some people were really, really upset, and I think that’s valid. No one likes spoilers or even the possibility of one.’
Failed Attempt to Prevent Shock Leak
Given that Lacy’s track ‘oh yeah?’ appears in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he had presumably seen the film early or was already familiar with its plot. It was an unfortunate situation for Valkyrae, who took every precaution to prevent the slip-up and even allowed him to brush it off, but her efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful.
