Seagull Goes On Indefinite Hiatus Citing Burnout And Depression

Popular video game streamer Brandon ‘Seagull’ Larned has decided to stop streaming on Twitch due to “burnout and depression.”

Following two years of content creation, after a successful pro career, the retired professional Overwatch player has decided to steer clear of the spotlight for a considerable amount of time. “I’ve been struggling with burnout/depression,” the 28-year-old content creator tweeted on Jan. 25.

“Don’t expect to see me on for quite a while,” he wrote. However, Larned hinted at an eventual return to the internet saying, “Don’t forget I exist. I’ll see you guys next time.” This comes amid a brief hiatus from him.

Larned had not streamed on Twitch in ten days, while his last YouTube upload came in Oct. 2020, and he had tweeted only once this year before the announcement. After his exit from the Dallas Fuel in Aug. 2018, he became a full-time content creator and began playing Overwatch at the highest level in 2015.

The popular content creator’s career saw a myriad of historic wins, including his 2017 NA Contenders championship with Team Envy. Following his retirement from competitive play, Larned deviated his focus on streaming and his channel grew to one million followers on Twitch in a short time.

Several of his fellow streamers and pro players took to social media to wish Larned, who made a significant impact on the Overwatch community, as well as the broader gaming industry, well. Seán ‘JackSepticEye’ McLoughlin wished Larned well, while former OWL pro Lane ‘Surefour’ Roberts said he hoped Larned feels better as soon as he can.

Details about when Larned plans to make a return are still scarce, however, no one wants him to rush back before he feels he is ready. Former Apex Legends pro turned content creator Coby ‘dizzy’ Meadows faced a similar situation recently, making a return on Jan. 19 after seven months hiatus due to mental exhaustion.
