Samsung has been making ISOCELL-branded camera sensors for quite some time now. The Korean smartphone giant might be working on the next-gen XISO-CELL camera sensors.
To recap, the Galaxy S5 was the first Samsung phone to come with the ISOCELL branding. Moreover, Samsung has been using the ISOCELL Plus and ISOCELL 2.0 branding.
So, it looks like the next-generation camera sensors with a different branding could be in the offing. According to a report by Galaxy Club, the company has applied for trademark rights for the XISO-CELL with KIPRIS in South Korea.
However, it is unclear whether this branding will make its debut on the Galaxy S23 series’s camera sensor. To those unaware, the Galaxy S23 will be the company’s first smartphone featuring a mammoth 200MP shooter.
Notably, “ISOCELL” comes from the words isolated cells, which was a technique used by Samsung to minimize interference and noise from two adjoining pixels in a camera.
It will be interesting to see why Samsung has added an X in front of the ISOCELL branding. Some reports suggest the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature sensor-shift OIS just like the iPhone 13 Pro series, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the iPhone 14 Pro series.
So, if this speculation turns out to be true, it might be related to Samsung’s new XISO-CELL branding. Samsung will reportedly unveil the Galaxy S23 lineup in February 2023.
