‘Genshin Impact’ Deletes Elon Musk Tweet After The Campaign Backfired

Update: A few hours after kicking off a Twitter campaign focusing on getting Elon Musk to play and stream Genshin Impact, the game has taken down the collab tweet. It seems that the challenge has backfired, leading to controversy among players.

Genshin Impact has started a campaign wherein if they reach a certain number of followers on Twitter then they would invite Space CEO Elon Musk to play on stream.

Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo. As of now, they have 2.4 million followers.

The developers decided to start a campaign. First, they created a second Twitter account, Ella Musk, and requested fans to follow.

Check out the deleted tweet below:

Genshin Impact Ella Musk Twitter

Ella Musk is a non-playable character in the game. She is a scholar of Hilichurlian linguistics, as well as the older sister of Dr. Edith. The character’s name is a reference to the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk.

Genshin Impact To Invite Elon Musk

The Ella Musk account currently has only 55K followers. The developers planned to start a community challenge and set a few goals. They decided to do something in return if the challenges were successfully completed.

The goals are as follows: If they reach 500k followers then @GenshinImpact will be renamed back to Paimon. If they get 1 Million followers then @GenshinImpact will follow @ElonMusk.

On 3 Million followers, @GenshinImpact will invite @ElonMusk to stream Genshin Impact. Lastly, with 5 Million followers, @GenshinImpact CEO Dawei will invite Elon Musk to visit Mihoyo HQ.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go well, and they received severe backlash from the fanbase. The reaction was so negative that they decided to delete the tweet.

Paul Tassi, a writer for Forbes, termed the community challenge of Genshin Impact as “weird.”

The SpaceX CEO hasn’t commented anything about this campaign as of now. Also, due to the criticism, miHoYo may decide to cancel the campaign. So, it’s unlikely that they would reach their unrealistic goals.

Genshin Impact is playable right now on PC, PS4, PS5, iOS, and Android. A Nintendo Switch version is currently under development.
