Elon Musk Says He Wants To Live Long Enough To See This One Thing

Although Elon Musk says he wants to stay healthy for as long as possible, the Tesla CEO claims he isn’t afraid of dying.

Elon Musk has several things on his mind, but a long lifespan isn’t one of them. While talking to the CEO of Axel Springer, Mathias Dopfner, Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California, Musk made a comment on a long lifespan.

The 50-year-old business magnate told Dopfner (via Business Insider) that he wants to maintain his health for a longer period of time. Aside from this, Musk admitted that he isn’t afraid of dying.

“I am not afraid of dying. I think it would come as a relief,” he said.

Musk had a straightforward answer to Dopfner’s question regarding “longevity” and “a significantly increased life span”

“I don’t think we should try to have people live for a really long time,” he said.

“That would cause asphyxiation of society because the truth is, most people don’t change their minds.”

“They just die. So, if they don’t die, we will be stuck with old ideas and society wouldn’t advance.”

Moreover, the duo discussed multiple issues including the Russia-Ukraine crisis, loneliness, and space exploration. Musk noted that he is sure that everyone has at times felt lonely.

The SpaceX chief goes on to give an example of him missing his dog when he wasn’t working on the Starship rocket and was at home by himself.

“I feel quite lonely because I’m just in a little house by myself with no dog,” he explained.

Furthermore, Musk said he thinks that a “gerontocracy” is unhealthy. According to him, gerontocracy enables people who are much older than the majority of the population to largely control the government.

He also points out that the founders of the US had fixed minimum ages for holding local office, but they did not establish maximum ages because they did not expect humans to live so long.

“I think for political leadership, you want to be ideally within 10 or at least, 20 years of the average age of the population,” Musk said.

Dopfner points out that Musk may not be “able to see the vision of SpaceX come true” in his life. The entrepreneur responds to his remark by saying, “I would like to live long enough to see that.”

In context to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Musk said the United States has done a lot. “We cannot let Putin take over Ukraine,” he added.
