After six months of teasing and speculation, the online digital collectible card game, Hearthstone: Mercenaries mode has been officially revealed.
The company conducted a reveal stream for the new game mode which lasted around an hour and a half. However, the stream failed to explain to the fans about the new game mode.
Furthermore, the complaint was that without any introduction, the developers dumped a lot of information which left everyone baffled. Mercenaries is a mode that uses Hearthstone’s basic card game gameplay and mixes it with RPG and roguelike mechanics.
Here, players will collect the titular Mercenaries and will lead them in battles to claim bounties. Or battle in a Fighting Pit against other players.
Aside from that, there are a total of 59 mercenary cards. Each player will have 8 cards in their collection: Rokara, Tyrande Whisperwind, Blademaster Samuro, Xyrella, Millhouse Manastorm, Cariel Roame, Cornelius Roame, and Grommash Hellscream.
Furthermore, there are three kinds of Mercenaries: Fighter, Caster, and Protector and players will be able to upgrade them as they progress.
Once players figure out their squad, they head into combat. Each side picks their team’s actions, and then the round plays out. The format feels similar to Hearthstone’s Battlegrounds mode, with rounds split between decision making and action. Players will be able to swap them tactically or bring a fresh mercenary if one dies.

However, the main in-game resources are Mercenary Coins and Mercenaries Packs. With Mercenary Coins one can obtain a particular Mercenary or power-up that Mercenary’s abilities and equipment. If a player already owns it, while in packs a player can get one Mercenary plus more coins.
The price for pre-purchase bundles is 50 dollars for The Lich King and Diablo packs, and 30 dollars for the Sylvanas Mercenaries bundle. Hearthstone: Mercenaries is scheduled to release on October 12, 2021.
