Elon Musk New Political Party Raises Eyebrows, A 2028 Bid?

Elon Musk. The name alone sparks debate, ignites innovation, and now, it’s tied to a potential new political party. With whispers of a 2028 launchpad swirling, the tech titan’s latest venture is certainly turning heads and raising questions across the political landscape.

Elon Musk revealed his new political group, the ‘America Party,’ on Saturday, following a period of tension and public disagreement with his former associate, US President Donald Trump. The new party’s agenda aims to challenge the ‘one-party system,’ which Musk stated was ‘formed to give you back your freedom.’

The formation of the new party has ignited discussions about Musk’s future political involvement, specifically regarding a potential 2028 presidential bid or the identity of other party leaders.

When an X user inquired about his election plans, asking ‘Midterms or 2028?’, Musk’s concise reply was ‘Next year.’ This suggests a focus on the 2026 midterms rather than an immediate presidential campaign.

Ineligibility for the Presidency

Under the current rules governing the US presidency, the 54-year-old Tesla CEO cannot seek the nation’s highest office. Article II, Section 1 of the US Constitution explicitly states that presidential candidates must be natural-born citizens, a criterion that legally prevents Musk from running.

In 2024, Musk publicly acknowledged this restriction, stating, ‘I cannot be president because of my African birth.’ He further clarified at the time, ‘My grandfather was American, but I was born in Africa, so I cannot be president.’

While campaigning with Donald Trump for the 2025 elections last year, Musk expressed his political intentions clearly, stating, ‘I actually don’t want to be president.’

‘I want to build rockets and cars.’ Musk pledged to focus on government efficiency if Trump secured re-election. He stated, ‘I’m hoping that we get President Trump elected, and then I’ll work hard on the Department of Government efficiency.’

Challenging the Status Quo

Fast forward to July 4th, when Musk posted a poll on his social media platform X, asking users if they desired ‘independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system.’

The poll garnered over 1.2 million responses, with the majority favouring the idea. Musk responded, ‘By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party, and you shall have it!’

He also shared a meme showing a two-headed snake with the caption ‘End the Uniparty,’ signalling his aim to offer an alternative to the prevailing Democratic and Republican control in US politics.
