Gawr Gura of Hololive EN has been a successful VTuber for the last 12 months. Now, she has surpassed Kizuna AI to become YouTube’s most popular VTuber.
Hololive EN VTubers garner huge popularity. However, Gawr Gura is more popular them all. After making her debut in Sept. last year, she continued bringing YouTubers into the mainstream fold more than any avatar before.
Her cute shark, coupled with her gaming and musical content took the internet by storm. Gawr Gura surpassed the 3 million YouTube subscribers mark, making her the first VTuber to do so. Her fanbase is called Chumbuds.

This is quite an impressive achievement, given that there have been multiple generations of Hololive talent that debuted before her. On top of that, she did this within 12 months. She overtook Kizuna AI, who is widely considered to be the first VTuber.
Kizuna AI has 29 million subscribers on YouTube, which Gura surpassed on June 30. As if that weren’t enough, she has earned about a whopping $1 million in Super Chat revenue on YouTube in her ten months on the platform. She is one of the platform’s top 30, according to stats site Playboard.
Gawr Gura celebrated her previous milestone streams with a Karaoke party. Since 3 million is an unprecedented record, there will likely be a huge celebration across the entire Hololive family. She might even break that $1 million Super Chat revenue milestone too.

Hololive recently announced the first run of merchandise for their English VTubers. Fans will be able to pick a Nendoroid figure of Gawr Gura as soon as it goes up for pre-orders.

With 1.57 million subscribers, Inugami Korone is the next most subscribed VTuber in the Hololive family. Usada Pekora is in the third spot with 1.53 million subscribers.
